Day 140: Distractions

Yesterday I was watching videos on YouTube and I ran into this video from Brendon.  I am going to add the video below.  The thing that grabbed my attention was that he was talking about a study that showed that the average adult spends 4 hours a day watching TV, which is the equivalent of 13 years with the boob tube.  Then he explained that some of us don’t watch TV but we do have distractions that are the same as this situation.

I was distracting myself on the internet at the time and I still found what he said very telling.  Then he said that the cost of that is a million dollars.  Let me say that again.  The cost of spending four hours a day distracted is $1,000,000.00.  Crazy!

Then I started thinking about the average person, me.  If I take two hours a day off my distractions and spend it learning something that would help my writing or my social media management, I could start making some extra money from things I really love.

I think this is a great concept that we all can adapt.  Your distractions might be a particular thing, like Facebook, or Netflix or playing solitaire.  It does not matter.  I’m not telling you to give it up all together.  My suggestion is to take two hours of your day to spend with the people you love, with a project that really interest you or doing something you truly love.  You will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

What do you think?  I’m going to plug the video below and I hope you leave your comments and share this blog post.
